Sulle tavole dei sudcoreani finiscono ogni anno tra gli 1,5 e i 2,5 milioni di cani ogni anno, ma si tratta di un settore in declino perché ai giovani sempre più occidentalizzati del Paese dell’Estremo Oriente questo tipo di carne non piace affatto.
Nonostante il trend di decrescita c’è chi tenta di contrastare questa tradizione: un allevamento di cani destinati al consumo di carne è stato chiuso dalla Humane Society International (HSI) in Corea del Sud. Si tratta della quinta volta in cui questa ong riesce a bloccare un allevamento di cani. Una goccia nel mare visto che nel Paese se ne contano alcune migliaia.
Gli attivisti dell’HSI hanno preso circa 200 cani, tra i quali degli huskie della Siberia, dei rottweiler, tosa giapponesi e dei golden retriever, e li hanno portati via dentro delle gabbie.
L’azienda del signor Gong esisteva da dieci anni. Qui i cani vivevano tutta la vita rinchiusi in gabbie fino a quando non venivano abbattuti. Solitamente i cani salvati dall’HSI vengono successivamente mandati negli Stati Uniti o in Canada per essere adottati.
